Abstract

The air-side thermal-hydraulic characteristics of multi-louvered fin and flat tube heat exchangers were investigated using CFD simulation. The 3-D CFD model has been developed to estimate the air-side heat transfer and pressure drop characteristics, leading to better understanding of the physical phenomena involved in multi-louvered fin and flat tube heat exchangers. The heat transfer coefficients and friction factors were determined from the simulation results and validated with test data. The results indicate that CFD simulation can be used as an effective tool for understanding the fundamental thermal-hydraulic phenomena and predicting performance of multi-louvered fin and flat tube heat exchangers.
